It's set with an array of bright marquise and brilliant cut diamonds (over 2 carats in total) around an 11mm cultured pearl that displays a gorgeous silky iridescent lustre

Russian gold marks indicating 56z (14 karat)

the piece dates from the early 19th century - circa 1810 - and the chain gets gradually thinner as it approaches either side of the clasp

It's formed from a single length of thick gold wire

but with sharp side edges
